The Creative Conduductor of Chaos

I think that the reason I became a bartender is because I love sharing my life with people. Somewhere down the line after the second or third drink people start asking questions:

Where are you from? Are you going to school? What are you majoring in? Do you have any more Jack Daniels?

I grew up traveling because of my Dad being in the Army, so not only am I used to all of the questions, but I have also developed a ravenous curiosity  and that is where I think my love for writing comes in.

Writing is at the same time my biggest stress reliever, but also my slave driver and tormentor. Writing is anything but easy even when the words are flowing  and the keys are clicking satisfactorily. There is always this urge to get everything down exactly like I picture it in my head , so writing down a simple scene or conversation can take hours of writing and rewriting. Don't even get me started on what it is like when everything in my head is jammed back like rush hour in New York City.

To be a good writer I have found, and heard, that it is important to be a good reader. Not only are you subconsciously learning about style, form, and other minute details of the technical aspects, but you learn to see and develop your own voice or particular genre that works for you. My favorite genres to read are Sci Fi, Fiction, or Fantasy, however, I have found that my strengths in writing lay more in realistic fiction with a tiny bit of the fantasy or surreal thrown in.

I love the outdoors and I am extremely active. I have a wanderer's spirit and mixed with my voracious curiosity it is really hard to keep me out of trouble or adventure. The really great thing about it though is that I have a never ending supply of ideas and inspiration for characters or places that I have encountered on my travels.

However, don't be fooled into thinking that this blog is going to be only the collections of works and fragments of ideas that I have for stories or all about my problems with writing--because you are going to be sorely disappointed. For me writing and life are interchange able. There is always going to be part of my real life mixed in with what ever project I am working on. Not to mention I was also waiting because I have been slightly nervous to put my work out there where people can read, criticize, and (if I am deemed worthy enough) plagiarize. Thanks to my rather tech savvy sister (thank you much) I now am copy written so I feel a little bit better.

P.S. if you are interested in the more adventurous side of my life I also have another blog called, Looking for: Climbing Rehab (I am an avid rock climber as well as writer) so feel free to jump over there as well.
